Walter Hirsch has been working as a photographer for more than 50 years. Born 1935 in Leningrad, now St.Petersburg he came to Sweden as a child. Since early years he had an interest in photography and started to work as filmcontroler for Paramount Pictures. This work influenced his visual language and his wish to capture moment. His fascination of movement is also due to the fact that  he was struck by polio at eight years of age. By capturing human movement the photography can express life itself and its profound feelings.

1965, Walter Hirsch started as a freelance photographer in Stockholm. His work became well  known 1967 with his pictures, “ Midsummer” , published in the magazine Aktuell fotografi over sixteen pages. This set of photographs became at the time much discussed for its daring style. He continued in 1968 with The Modern Museum of Art´s first exhibition for a single photographer called , London 13 April 1968 , 9:00 – 23:00, registered with a Canon Dial on HP5 film.The exhibition contained 700 photographs shoot in fourteen hours capturing the life an movement of humankind.

Walter Hirsch has after that worked with press, advertising, fashion and the arts. For longer periods he has been working abroad, mainly in USA and Asia. He has produced twelve books and hundreds of exhibition, among them four separate exhibitions at The Modern Museum of Arts in Stockholm. Since 1982 Walter Hirsch Receive a permanent artistic grant from the Swedish government. The line of photographs , “ Black and White pictures of naked men and women in movement” are produced 2000 – 2002. This pictures can be seen as an effort to capture life through motion, and has been shown at The Modern Museum of Art´s in Stockholm, January 2003.
